The Outreach program enables people with physical disabilities to lead full, active and independent lives in Waterloo Region.
Our versatile Outreach attendants can provide service at home, at work, at school, or out in the community, and consumers of attendant services can set their own schedules and decide how they want to receive services.
Outreach services are pre-scheduled for each consumer, up to a maximum of 21 hours per week.
Our attendants can provide assistance with a wide range of activities of daily living, all of which are directed by the consumer. These services can include:
- morning and bedtime routines
- bathing/showering
- washroom assistance
- transferring
- range of motion exercises
- meal preparation including bulk meal preparation
- light housekeeping
- grocery shopping
Attendant Services are also available to provide relief to friends or relatives who are acting as the primary caregiver for someone with a physical disability. Respite support allows primary caregivers to attend appointments, run errands, or simply take some time to relax. Eligible In-Home Respite consumers receive up to 150 hours per year, which are booked on a first come, first served basis. The service can be used both by individuals who are new to the Independent Living Centre of Waterloo Region, and existing consumers of our attendant services.
