Description:

The Dual Diagnosis Consultation Outreach Team (DDCOT) supports individuals who have a dual diagnosis: an intellectual disability (ID) or autism (with compromised cognitive and adaptive functioning) or pervasive developmental disorder, with a suspected or diagnosed mental illness or behavioural disorder. The team provides assessment, consultation and short term follow up. Care is then returned to the primary health care provider.

Criteria:
Clients must have a dual diagnosis - a diagnosed intellectual disability, an IQ at or below the 2nd percentile, as well as poor adaptive functioning with a suspected or diagnosed mental illness and/or behavioural disorder. DDCOT sees persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who have compromised cognitive and adaptive functioning. Referrals must include evidence of an intellectual or developmental disability. Psychological testing indicating cognitive function at 2nd percentile or below or a clear diagnosis of ASD must be included.
